Toward Climate Change Mitigation: Restoration of the Indonesian Peat Swamp

چکیده

Abstract Indonesia created a breakthrough in peatland management by establishing the Peatland Restoration Agency early 2016 with aim of restoring 2.67 million ha degraded peatlands. This effort is intended to accelerate recovery peatlands and return its hydrological functions after extensive damage fire, drainage canals, other external factors. paper highlights potential biomass carbon resources various land-use covers located Riau Biosphere Reserve. It discusses results restoration experiments conducted severely peatlands, estimates emission reductions targeted priority areas. The total estimated reduction natural forests was higher than logged-over disturbed forests: 207.36 CO 2 Mg h −1 , 161.48 65.87 respectively. 2.3 ecosystems have reduced emissions 98.77–153.53 Mt e. value from considered important for maintaining ecological function while optimizing economic benefits. We confirmed that above ground storage can be restored even Avoiding vegetation loss an aspect activity, but areas depends on below-ground stocks, as these are indicative fertile soils kinds land cover use.

Leaf size indices and structure of the peat swamp forest

Leaf size indices of the tree species in the peatland of Agusan del Sur in Mindanao in Philippines was examined to deduce the variation of forest structure and observed forest zonation.  Using raunkiaer and webb’s leaf size classification, the leaf morphometrics of seven tree species consistently found on the established sampling plots were determined.  The species includes Ternstroemia phi...

Cooperation on Climate-Change Mitigation†

We model greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions as a dynamic game. Countries’ emissions increase atmospheric concentrations of GHG, which negatively affects all countries' welfare. We analyze self-enforcing climate-change treaties that are supportable as subgame perfect equilibria. A simulation model illustrates conditions where a subgame perfect equilibrium supports the first-best outcome. In one of o...

Bionomics studies of Mansonia mosquitoes inhabiting the peat swamp forest.

The present study was conducted in the years 2000-2002 to determine the bionomics of Mansonia mosquitoes, vectors of nocturnally subperiodic Brugia malayi, inhabiting the peat swamp forest, "Phru Toh Daeng", Narathiwat Province, Thailand. Fifty-four species of mosquitoes belonging to 12 genera were added, for the first time, to the list of animal fauna in the peat swamp forest. Mansonia mosquit...

Revaluing unmanaged forests for climate change mitigation

UNLABELLED BACKGROUND Unmanaged or old-growth forests are of paramount importance for carbon sequestration and thus for the mitigation of climate change among further implications, e.g. biodiversity aspects. Still, the importance of those forests for climate change mitigation compared to managed forests is under controversial debate. We evaluate the adequacy of referring to CO2 flux measurem...

Land use as climate change mitigation.

As the international community works to develop a postKyoto framework for responding to climate change over the next several decades, policymakers should give serious consideration to broadening the range of management strategies beyond those conventionally defined as “mitigation”. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) mitigation concerns “implementing policies to re...
